About This Program
In this course, students will develop a deep understanding of the core principles and best practices of financial accounting. Through a comprehensive exploration of topics such as financial statement preparation, income statements, balance sheets, and short and long-term assets and liabilities, as well as shareholders’ equity, students will be well-equipped to excel in their academic pursuits in this field. You will be following the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) every step of the way.
What You Will Learn
- Learn about a merchandising company’s transactions, income, gross income, and the differences between PST, HST, and GST.
- Calculate COGS and inventory using FIFO, weighted average, and specific identification methods. Learn about internal control principles and their real-world application.
- Explain the idea of accounts receivable and how they are documented and how the allowance method, turnover ratios, and days’ sales uncollected are essential in managing accounts receivable.
- Explain depreciation methods, including straight-line, units-of-production, double-declining-balance, partial year depreciation, revised depreciation, and impairment losses. Learn their uses, recording approaches, and calculations.

This program provides students with an understanding of the fundamental principles and practices of financial accounting. By the end of the course, students should be able to prepare accurate and reliable financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets.
